Who Am I

One of the toughest medical problems I ever faced was my own obesity. Over the past twenty-five years, I saw my weight steadily go up. Of course, I was not alone - two of three adults in the USA are overweight. But deep down, I blamed my own lack of self control. I kept trying to identify what was wrong with me.

I was only able to lose weight, and keep it off, when I finally realized that I was completely normal, that the problem was not inside me but around me. The problem was in my environment, and it was in my history.

In the distant past, we were hunter-gatherers. We lived off the land, and our food supply went up and down. We had to store as much fat as possible when food was plentiful so we could make it through the hard times when food was scarce.

To make this happen, the body actually increases the appetite when it perceives an abundant food supply. The more you eat, the more you will want to eat, and research has shown this to be true. I call this the "hunter-gatherer" hunger. This is what makes you reach for a piece of pie even when you are not hungry. It is a normal instinct. Of course, our food supply never goes down, so we keep adding fat for hard times that never come!

The Bluebonnet Program gently turns this instinct around. It uses a combination of education, wholesome food, and good eating habits to eliminate the hunger that is the key to unnecessary weight gain. Once you have learned the right habits, you become the master of your body for the rest of your life.

On a personal note, I am on my own program. I have lost weight and kept it off. For the first time, I only keep "one-weight" clothes in my closet. Would you like to do the same?

Then come and join me. Look at the "Class Schedule" on the left, choose a date for a Phase1 session, and get started. I look forward to seeing you.

Ms. Rapley is my sounding board. She provides the nutritional and dietary framework for our menus, helps troubleshoot when someone is not meeting weight-loss goals, and provides continuing education for program participants. She has been with the program since the beginning and understands it just as well as I do!

The Program

This program has three phases: Principles, Practice, and Progress. You will register for one phase at a time. After each phase, you will decide whether to move on to the next one.
